How to Survive Duke of Edinburough

Exactly how I felt…

Over Tea & Biscuits

Well hello there,

As the majority of you will know, Duke of Edinburgh is a programme which you can take as bronze, silver, and for the brave ones of you, gold. The award consists of getting involved in volunteer work, taking up a physical activity, and participating in a skill which can be anything from playing a musical instrument to collecting train tickets, probably. This is done over a number of months, depending on which award you are taking. And finally, last but by no means least (ahem) the anticipated expedition, which we must say we thoroughly enjoyed. *sarcasm*

This bit is going to make you think of us as complete, pathetic weaklings but you may be able to empathise with us once you hear out stories. Although we have only just done our bronze…yes bronze…we have decided that it was challenging enough to post a blog ranting about the…

I’M GOING TO VAMPIRE WEEKEND

Words can literally not describe my complete joy and excitement. asdfjhdjfhsdfkjhdflakjsdf (According to danisnotonfire that is TRUE internet slang) <——this is how I feel right now. I mean wow, I know that there is no real purpose to this little post, no argument or essays (like those to come) but what the hey…it is Vampire Weekend. Oh lordy, I think I will cry when I see them- well that’s one more thing to tick off of my bucket list (next is Beyonce!) but never fear it isn’t like I am old yet- although I am closer to 30 than to 10….

But vampire weekend, they manage to balance great music with lyrics that aren’t always about sex, bitches, money, drinking and/or partying (which, very unfortunately is what most popular songs are about now e.g. Miley Cyrus‘ absolutely abominable new song, every Nick Minaj song and most Flo Rida songs- anyone notice how he just sings in a monotone?) . Although I can’t say that I understand all of their songs, most of them mean something to me in their own way (going deep) and their videos don’t have half naked women prancing around men, which is more than I can say about Robin Thicke who has basically created a porn video.

BUT

I don’t like them just because they seem a little intelligent and don’t flow with the status quo (rhyming genius, yes yes), it’s because their music is just- I can’t describe it, it’s that good. The drums in Cape Kwod Kwassa Kwassa are magic, the base in Campus is eargasmic and the vocals in just about every song is ahsdkfkadfdkjf.

So yeah just a little excitement from me, so sorry about the really bad grammar….

Hasta luego

Hello and Welcome

Hello All!

Welcome to The Big Blog! So you may be wondering why I started this (for those of you who aren’t, I’m going to tell you anyway- tough luck). Well there was no specific trigger which suddenly ignited the whole idea of blogging but there was a slow build up of events: from hearing about how the US government refused to make gun laws stricter to cringing about how sexist Twilight really is -sparkly vampires eurggh- I had so much that I wanted to talk about but so little time for any human interaction (thanks school). Suddenly a light shone upon me and told me to start a blog! (Okay so maybe there was no light and it was my teacher telling me)- ET VOILA! That, my friends, is the story of how the Big Blog came in to being.

So now you’re wondering what this blog is going to be about- fashion, politics, teen angst, Richard Feynman, Russian Revolution, the Mother Sauces, Joseph Levitt Gordon, Harry Potter etc. Well you are in for a BIG treat………it’s about everything. I just found that there is too much to talk about and I didn’t want to start multiple blogs otherwise my head would start spinning! So here it is, the whole shebang- food, films, culture, art, politics, history, science, daily life und so weiter (etc in German- I felt like we needed a change).

So I’m planning to write in this every week, or maybe even more!

Well ENJOY

Tschüss :*
